Can we talk about something real quickly?
BITS Pilani gets treated like a backup option by a lot of students. Like if JEE does not go well, "I guess there is always BITS." That thinking is genuinely backwards. Google, Microsoft, Amazon recruiting from BITS campuses every year. Strong alumni. Good infrastructure. The bitsat exam is worth taking seriously on its own, not just as plan B.
Here is everything you need to know about it for 2026.
Short version: the bitsat exam is how you get into BITS. Birla Institute of Technology and Science runs three campuses, Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, and this one exam covers all three.
Programs on offer through the bitsat exam include B.E. in various engineering disciplines, B.Pharm, and Integrated M.Sc programs.
Computer-based test. All multiple choices. 130 questions in 3 hours. Sounds fine until you actually sit it and realise how fast that timer moves.
What separates this from JEE is not the syllabus, that overlaps heavily. It is speed. Being correct is not enough here. You have to be correct and fast. Students who freeze on questions or second-guess themselves too long do not score well even if their concepts are solid.
Two sessions are available. Sit one, sit both, your choice. If you appear for both, whichever score is higher is the one that counts.
| Event | Date |
| Application Opens | 15 December 2025 |
| Last Date to Apply | 16 March 2026 |
| Correction Window | 18 to 20 March 2026 |
| Slot Booking | 27 to 31 March 2026 |
| Admit Card | 5 April 2026 |
| Session 1 BITSAT Exam Date | 15 to 17 April 2026 |
| Session 2 BITSAT Exam Date | 24 to 26 May 2026 |
Slot booking runs only five days, March 27 to 31. Students who apply close to the deadline get whatever center and time slot is left over. That is not ideal on exam day.
One thing worth thinking about: if April feels too soon, register for both sessions. Use Session 1 as a real test run inside the actual bitsat exam environment. Still have Session 2 to post a proper score. That is a legitimate strategy and not just something people say.
The bitsat form fees are not one flat number. They go by gender and how many sessions you register for.
| Category | Session 1 Only | Both Sessions |
| Male | Rs. 3,600 | Rs. 5,600 |
| Female / Transgender | Rs. 3,100 | Rs. 4,600 |
| Dubai Centre | Rs. 7,250 | Rs. 9,250 |
The bitsat registration fee pays online only. Debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI, wallets, all accepted. No offline option at all.
Paid and gone. That is the policy on the bitsat registration fee. Non-refundable, non-transferable. Before you hit pay, make sure the session choice makes sense, your eligibility is confirmed, and your details are correct. Changing things after payment is not an option.
Three campuses. That is the full list of bitsat colleges in India.
BITS Pilani is the flagship. Highest cutoffs of the three, strongest name recognition, best placement numbers for most branches. CSE at Pilani needs 350 plus out of 390. Most other branches sit around 320 plus.
BITS Goa is second. Cutoffs roughly 300 plus. Students who study there genuinely enjoy the campus experience. It gets unfairly dismissed sometimes but it is a solid option.
BITS Hyderabad is the third of the bitsat colleges in India. Newer cutoffs around 280 plus, but placement numbers have been climbing steadily. Not the weakest choice by a long stretch.
320 plus keeps all three bitsat colleges in India accessible. Under 280 and options get limited fast.
For engineering programs you need Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in Class 12. For B.Pharm replace Maths with Biology.
75 percent aggregate minimum across those subjects. Also 60 percent in each subject individually. Both conditions apply at the same time.
Class 12 passed in 2025 or appearing in 2026 only. Earlier batches cannot apply.
BITSAT Exam Pattern
| Section | Questions |
| Physics | 30 |
| Chemistry | 30 |
| English Proficiency | 10 |
| Logical Reasoning | 20 |
| Mathematics or Biology | 40 |
| Total | 130 |
390 total marks. 3 hours. Every question is MCQ.
Marks: correct answer gets plus 3. Wrong answer loses 1. Unattempted gets zero.
Now the part of the bitsat exam pattern people actually miss: finish all 130 questions before time ends and 12 bonus questions unlock. Answer those correctly and your score goes up meaningfully. Students who are fast enough to reach that bonus section have a real edge.
English and Logical Reasoning together are 30 questions. At 3 marks each, that is 90 marks sitting there. Most students ignore these sections and focus only on PCM. Big mistake. 90 marks is not small. Students who prep those two sections pick up marks their peers leave behind.
Blind guessing is risky under this marking scheme. But ruling out two options and then choosing from the remaining two is worth attempting.
Built on NCERT Class 11 and 12. Heavy overlap with JEE Main. If your JEE prep is serious, you are covering most of the bitsat syllabus already.
Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Thermodynamics, Oscillations and Waves, Optics, Modern Physics. Conceptual application questions. The bitsat syllabus for Physics does not go beyond NCERT but it expects you to apply things quickly.
Organic, Physical, Inorganic. Chemical Bonding, Electrochemistry, Coordination Compounds, standard Organic reactions. NCERT reading is genuinely enough here. Chemistry in the bitsat syllabus favours students who know their theory without needing to think hard about it.
Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, Probability, Vectors. 40 questions, the heaviest section in the bitsat syllabus. Calculus and Coordinate Geometry come up most often. Daily practice is the only way to build the speed this section needs.
Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Sentence Correction. Ten questions. Students who read regularly need almost no separate prep for this part of the bitsat syllabus.
Verbal reasoning, analytical reasoning, pattern recognition, data interpretation. Twenty questions. Not hard. Just needs regular practice so it feels familiar on the day.
These move slightly year to year based on difficulty. The positions relative to each other stay fairly consistent though.
